Why Natulang gets you speaking

Most language apps train you to recognize a language: you tap the right word, match pairs and type translations. You learn to understand, but the first time someone talks to you, you freeze. Classic audio courses get you talking, but they can't hear whether you said it right. Speaking is a separate skill, and the only way to build it is to speak.

Natulang is built around that. In every lesson you say whole sentences out loud and put them together into real-life dialogues. Speech recognition checks what you say and accepts natural variations, so you practice real conversation, not one memorized answer.

  • You build sentences yourself instead of picking them from a list
  • Spaced repetition brings back the phrases you got wrong
  • The hardest phrases go to Challenging for extra practice
  • No streaks or medals, just speaking practice
  • Hands-free, so you can practice while cooking or walking

That's why learners who tried Duolingo, Babbel and Pimsleur keep describing Natulang the same way: it's the app that finally got them talking. Here is what they say in their own words.

Compared with Duolingo and Babbel

After a lot of Duolingo, I was looking for an app which focused solely on speaking. This was just what I needed.

Peter R. Google Play review · Aug 2026

I ditched Duolingo for many reasons, but also checked out a few others at the time I was looking for a replacement, nothing comes close to Natulang.

It is a stark difference to the competition. Everyone's like "Yay! Here's a medal 🥇 and a streak... and a puzzle piece... and a fanfare..." and Natulang is like "Sit! Listen! Speak!" 👩🏼‍🏫, but I noticed day after day I'm getting better and I can actually say something useful …

I like it because it reinforces stuff in my memory a lot faster than other methods I’ve tried. For example a week with Duolingo will have you saying The man drinks milk. A week with Natulang will have you asking directions and describing your emotional state.

This app also has more direct explanations of grammar concepts than I’ve found in any of its competitors, which is very helpful. … I quickly decided to purchase a lifetime subscription, which, at 100 dollars, is less than a year of Duolingo for far better content.

I found natulang much better than Duolingo because it is more conversational.

He probado muchas aplicaciones para aprender idiomas, sin duda esta es una de las mejores!! … En comparación con Duolingo, siento que esta app ofrece una experiencia más práctica y efectiva.

Translated from Spanish: I’ve tried many language apps, and this is without a doubt one of the best! … Compared with Duolingo, I feel this app offers a more practical and effective experience.

This app is fantastic. I did over 30 Spanish lessons I really feel that I'm learning. … ¡Natulang es mejor y más útil que Duolingo!

Translated from Spanish: Natulang is better and more useful than Duolingo!

You'd be surprised how many language learning apps aren't usable for people like me. I also appreciate that the phrases you learn are actually useful, and not just "The mouse is big." (Lookin' at you Duolingo).

I can’t rave about this app more. I’ll happily pay to actually learn a language. Don’t even bother with babbel or duolingo

AnitaManka App Store review (AU) · May 2024

What I like about it is it builds on high frequency words and uses natural sounding conversations. It uses voice recognition to check your answers. It builds up speaking confidence by blending previously learned words with new vocabulary and phrases. … Meanwhile, the babbel app never gets updated and I don't think it's as effective.

Compared with Pimsleur

I am just a customer, who totally agrees that Natulang is a great follow up to Pimsleur. … Natulang is better than Pimsleur because it has voice recognition which means that you have to give a reasonably correct answer in order to make progress, and also that it knows the words that you get wrong and can bring them back to you using spaced repetition.

u/Next-Fuel-9491 Reddit · r/Pimsleur · Aug 2026

I have tried a lot of apps: Duolingo, Babbel, Busuu, Clozemaster, Pimsleur, Assimil, and a few more. … If I could go back, I would stick to just two apps: Natulang and Speakly. … Natulang is just a better Pimsleur (same idea of getting you to speak and recall phrases through spaced repetition, with a voice recognition to actually personalise the review).

u/Delicious-View-8688 Reddit · r/Germanlearning · Oct 2026

Aplicativo excepcional. Muito superior ao Pimsleur, tendo todos os lados bons do último, porém mais barato e com mais recursos que interessam.

Translated from Portuguese: An exceptional app. Far better than Pimsleur: it has everything good about Pimsleur, but it’s cheaper and has more of the features that matter.

José Google Play review · Feb 2026

I started French from 0 with it and made faster progress than with any other app. Pimsleur would be my 2nd choice after Natulang, but I haven't used the app version of it, just the audios. I find Natulang much more engaging though.

u/cyber-sack Reddit · r/learnfrench · Aug 2026

I've done some Duolingo, Pimsleur, Say Something In, and Language Transfer. … The app is closest to Pimsleur, or other speech/listening spaced repetition audio you may have tried. However, it includes flash cards and targeted practice so you don't have to repeat sections as often if you're not confident.

Lady Cramps App Store review (US) · Jan 2025

I have a reasonable grammatical knowledge of German to an A2 level and have done weekly lessons, self taught lessons and intensive courses in Germany but still froze when I had to speak. This app and the Pimsleur app unlocked this fear.

AstraReRo App Store review (AU) · Aug 2026

Compared with other language apps

Anki, Pimsleur, memerise, dreaming languages, language transfer, and Michel Thomas all don't have a way that they could tell if you didn't pronounce a word correctly so I think that Natulang is the best system that's available for the time being.

u/spokenscreams Reddit · r/learnfrench · Aug 2026

Gets you to speak like no other app I’ve seen. … Natulang isn’t gamified, keeping you solely focused on producing sentences in your target language.

This app is sooo good! Excellent work with the content and learning style. Just absolutely outstanding compared to all other language apps I've used.

Carolynandeve App Store review (CA) · Dec 2025

I have been studying Spanish for many years and the most important thing to do is to speak and that is missing in classes (only primary/grammar words are spoke), other apps or textbooks. Natulang gets you speaking immediately and remembers your progress.

I have done many apps etc over the years, but for speaking French, Natulang is the only thing that has helped me.

u/weedexpat Reddit · r/learnfrench · Aug 2026

I was always looking for the app like this where I could talk a lot. Most apps help you to learn some words and build spoken language understanding. This app actually makes you speak.
